Protest As JAMB Refuses To Open Portal For UTME Candidates To Correct Personal Data

There was a huge protest on Thursday at the office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Lagos as thousands of UTME candidate accused the tertiary admission examination body of refusing to open its portal for them to effect changes in their personal data. The protesting candidates accused JAMB of collecting money from them for the exercise bbut so far none of them have been able to change the date in their UTME application form. The examination body also confirmed that it had not opened its portal for candidates in the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to effect change of course or correction of data. The Head of Media and Information of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday that many candidates bombarded the Lagos office of the organisation for these purposes. The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) gained N63,153,866,496.20 in the six trading hours of Monday. On Friday, the market lost N6.87 billion within the first 78 minutes of President Muhammadu Buhari’s first public outing in weeks. When the market opened on Friday, the stock exchange gained N30.66 billion, rallying at N9,075,965,863,135.82 when the news of the president’s first public appearance in weeks, broke. Within the next 78 minutes from about 2:12pm to 3:30pm, the market lost N6,871,064,372.41 to close at N9,069,094,798,763.41. On Monday however, the Nigerian bourse, which opened at a market cap of N9.069 trillion gained N63 billion to close at N9,132,248,665,259.58. Traders at the exchange believe that the surge in market cap and the positive trading recorded, is as a result of investors’ optimism in the country’s path forward. Makarfi’s Court Victory Sparks Wild Celebrations In State Capital

Youths in Makurdi on Wednesday took to the streets to celebrate the Supreme Court ruling that declared Sen. Ahmed Makarfi the authentic leader of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP). The youths, who appeared to have been waiting for the judgement, poured into the streets immediately it was delivered, dancing and chanting victory songs as they marched through major streets in the Benue capital. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the youths held placards some of which read “Congrats to Democracy”, “PDP will Change the Change”, and “now, real politics has started”. Kwara Fire Service Warns Against False Alarms

Mr Abdulwaheed Yakub, Head of Department of Fire Prevention, Kwara Fire Service, has expressed concern over false fire outbreak alarms being raised by some residents in the state. He said this in an in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ilorin. Yakub, who warned perpetrators to desist, said his men received three false fire outbreak alarms in a day from some unidentified residents of the state. He said the three false fire alarms were received from Tanke, Akerebiata and Sango area, Ilorin, all in the state capital on Wednesday alone. Yakub said that the materials and manpower enough to put out any fire disaster were moved to the areas only to discover that there were no fire outbreaks in any part of the area.
