Tragedy Averted UNIMAID Female Students Escape Death As 3 Boko Haram Suicide Bombers Attack Hostels

Three male suicide bombers died Thursday night when they launched an attack on the female hostel of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID). No student died in the attack.

Three security men in the university were injured in the foiled attack.

In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, DSP Victor Isuku, confirmed the attack on Friday.

“At about 2350hrs, three male suicide bombers with IEDs strapped to their bodies, gained entry into the premises of university of Maiduguri. In an attempt to enter the female hostels, they were intercepted by security operatives.

”One of the bombers hurriedly detonated his IED vest, killing himself instantly.

“The other two bombers detonated theirs near a construction site also within the proximity of the university premises, killing themselves alone. Three university security personnel were reported injured.”

Aishat Mohammed, an undergraduate student told Saharareporters. “It was so loud and we were confused in our hostel. It surprised us because it is becoming frequent, even when Maiduguri was under siege, we did not experience this. President should help us erect fence round the school in order to prevent further attacks.”
