Alleged Gay Couples Arrested In Abuja



Suspected Homosexuals who were identified as Vincent Obiora Chijioke 33 years of age from Enugu state and his partner Onyeka Okocha who is 30 years old from imo stateyesterday narrowly escaped lynching from an angry mob, following beatings they got from the angry youths of the area where they reside, before concerned neighbours who then feared they might be killed in the process intervened and alerted the police.
An eye witness who pleaded anonymity said, they were mobbed at a local beer joint along Airport road Lugbe a suburb of Abuja metropolis after a tip off from the locals who were monitoring their activities for some time, at least 3 persons sustained some injuries when police arrived the scene and used teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd that gathered there with cutlass, tyres and petrol to set them ablaze.
One of the suspects identified as Vincent said they have been dating since 2013, but have been discreet about their affairs since the society they found themselves frowns at the act.
It is against the law to engage in any form of homosexuality in Nigeria, the penalty attract14 years imprisonement while in some states in Nigeria it's a death penalty.
Anti-gay law was signed into law on January 7, 2014 by Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,the Nigeria’s President as the law forbids any cohabitation between same-sex sexual partners and ban any "public show of same seamorous relationship."
The security agency has been clamping down on suspected homosexualin various states of the country, since the enactment of the law.
